Academics

Academics at L.I.C.S.

At Lovenest, learning is a calling. Our academic programme brings together the Ghana Education Service (GES) national curriculum and the Oxford International Curriculum, so that every child is rooted firmly in their Ghanaian identity while being prepared to thrive on a global stage. All of it is delivered in a nurturing, Christ-centred environment where character matters as much as competence.

Two Curricula, One Purpose

We deliberately teach a blended curriculum, giving our learners the very best of home and the wider world.

The Ghana Education Service Curriculum grounds our pupils in the national Standards-Based programme. It builds mastery of the knowledge and skills every Ghanaian child needs, prepares them thoroughly for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), and lays a strong foundation for senior high school and the WASSCE beyond. Our learners grow up confident in their language, culture and heritage.

The Oxford International Curriculum, developed by Oxford University Press, enriches that foundation with an internationally benchmarked, inquiry-led approach. Across English, Mathematics, Science and Computing, and through dedicated Wellbeing, Global Skills and Sustainability strands, it develops the critical thinking, creativity and confidence today's learners need. Its spiral design means each year deepens what came before, and its focus on wellbeing recognises a simple truth we hold dear: children learn best when they are happy, secure and known.

Together, these two frameworks produce learners who are locally grounded and globally ready.

Our Approach

Active, inquiry-based learning sits at the heart of every lesson. Teachers act as mentors and classrooms become laboratories of ideas, places where questions are welcomed, mistakes become stepping stones, and curiosity is never in short supply. We keep our classes purposeful and our pupils known, so that no child slips quietly to the back of the room.

Key Strengths

  1. STEM excellence: dedicated science and computer laboratories where young minds investigate, build and code.
  2. Strong humanities and creative arts: nurturing expression, imagination and a love of storytelling.
  3. Wellbeing and global skills: collaboration, resilience and real-world problem-solving woven through the curriculum.
  4. Mother-tongue language support: proud instruction in Fante, honouring the language of home.
  5. French as a compulsory second language: opening doors across our region and the wider world.

Assessment That Guides, Not Just Grades

We assess to understand each child, not merely to rank them. Continuous classroom assessment is paired with the Oxford International Curriculum's clear progression benchmarks: Developing, Secure and Extending, so parents always know exactly where their child stands and what comes next. Alongside this, we prepare our pupils diligently for the Oxford International Standardized Assessments (OISA), Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the national milestones ahead, combining international insight with proven examination readiness.

The Learning Journey

From our earliest years through to Junior High School, every stage is designed to flow smoothly into the next — Early Years wonder giving way to Primary mastery, and Primary confidence maturing into the independence and academic discipline of JHS. It is one connected journey, from a child's first day with us to the day they step out ready for what follows.

Beyond the Classroom

Great learning does not end at the last bell. Our pupils sharpen their minds in quiz competitions, explore their gifts through clubs and the creative arts, and grow in faith and fellowship through a vibrant Christ-centred community life. We educate the whole child: mind, body and spirit.

Raising Christ-Centred Achievers. At Lovenest, we do not simply teach subjects; we shape futures.
